Well I missed the entire second day of ESF.
The third day started 4 points apart (less that 1%). I was excited about it. Most of the leaders of Spanish fleets were actually English. By the middle of the standard class. the Spanish had decided to go all out after the fortifications starting with Lubeck. I was in a fleet doing sabotage and bombardment. the Dutch pulled all of their fleets into the area and started to pick off the Spanish . Rather than change tactics the Spanish were getting slaughtered but still going after Lubeck.
It was becoming clear that the Spanish were getting killed. Still no change in strategy. Then one of the leaders,(Beastly) actually defected from Spain to Netherlands during the ESF and took the quest on the Dutch side. A couple others joined in, then suddenly all the English who were fighting for Spain just quit, and decided to have their own mock battles. They just abandoned their fleets and sailed away. I was never so disgusted with a group of players in any game. these we all high level players and leaders. (and I would be willing to bet young, because I know of no mature players who take honor and integrity so lightly. esp anyone who was ever in military) I voiced my disgust in world chat, and was thoroughly mocked by many. I tried to find others will to regroup and form a fleet, but the defection was so complete that those who didn't join it quit the ESF.
I even tried to fight alone. but you cannot do that in ESF.
New personal rule. from now on I either start my own ESF fleet or join one whose admiral I know and respect. (that leaves most of the regulars out) will never again join the COWARDS.

Ok. That was rather negative. Time to look at the positives.
I was frustrated myself as well during the ESF because while I usually do well, I personally had my worst day ever in ESF. So as always I look at Why.......
The biggest difference was that all the fighting seemed to take place in one massive battle rather than being spread across the entire area. As a result, I was frequently engaged in melee then released directly in front of another player who blasted me with a massive crit. Other times there was just plain no room to maneuver without being in somebodies sights. Hmmm, I could claim it was just bad luck, but that's not true. why was I too vulnerable too often? I could not turn fast enough!!!!
I have long considered turning to be less important than durability, armor, speed, etc. I had never before been in a situation where it was such an important factor. I blame my shipbuilder for this flaw in my ships.... Darn that shipbuilder Maverikk anyway.
So I learned something. G6 mods are extremely expensive, and add only marginal increases. Yet those marginal increases make the difference between winning and losing much of the time. It is like a Major league baseball team. The worst player in the league is better than 99.999% of all players. yet if the team doesn't have some of the best of this best they could conceivably win only 40% of their games and get booed by their fans.
As a shipbuilder I need to build the best of the best to win regularly as well. My ships are competitive, but it is time to step it up a notch. Remember, I intend to not only join ESF from now on, I intend to lead a fleet. I also saw some really different ships used this time which were highly successful. So as I come up with great ships I will post their information including final stats. including pictures.

A While ago I started a website to show off ships for sale' I had trouble keeping it up and quickly learned that I was trading ships far to fast and frequently for it to help unless I had a full time person to update it. I plan on reformatting that site today and will use it to make a shipbuilding guide. as it changes, I'll make posts about it.

I just built out my half moon(finally). wow! this thing may be built for salvage, but it can nearly run with my fast clippers. Hit 13.42 knots on way to Naples from Seville. I never expected it to be so fast. this may well become my cruising around ship. I like it.

I can't help but wonder what happened to the company. in spring we had an active thriving company were 4 or 5 players seemed to be on at any time. now it seems like a virtual ghost town. for a full month now I have been the only player for the company virtually every time I played. I have seen Ras on a couple of occasions, but only for a few minutes each time. I understand that there are other issues and real lives to be lived. I myself have had plenty of interference. I Value the friends I have made in this company very much. But there are times I wonder if it isn't time to move on.

I suppose I shouldn't really post here any more, but I would like to share 1 last thing with you. Being on my own has forced me to focus differently. Not because the game is different or that I am different. But now, my group might be small, but I am the leader. And there is so much I wasn't ready for. I have been honing skills rather than just going where the wind blew me. I would like to thank my friends here, especially Rassalon, for all the help you have given me, and all you have taught me. I got a Modified Bermuda sloop ticket. It is a brand new ship that is completely undocumented. I saw potential in it, and thought it would be interesting to try and build a battleship on a sloop platform. I guess this must be what Pontiac felt in 1964 when they decided to build the first muscle car (GTO) on compact car platform(1964 Tempest - then in 1965 LaMans). I had expectations of a ship similar to a MRF. or MIS .... not quite as powerful as a capital ship like AFCV or MSOS or MSoleilRoyale... but with better handling to compensate. I carefully predicted the possibilities using UWOtool and values I knew were common for battleship builds. and I found what should have been the perfect build for the ship. I utilized several Astro parts. and did my best. What I got astounded me. I had no failures and 2 great successes(never happened to me before) and as a result I hit maxed value on 6 stats. Check this out!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe this is a sloop? ? (*=maxed) these values are -- Durability = 1412 * -- Vert-sail = 383 * -- Horiz sail = 287 * -- turn = 23 -- wave = 16 -- Armor = 60 * -- Cabin = 222 * -- cannon and cargo are variable with refit but the cannon is maxed also * Opt Skills = APN & IGP orig skill = BPA GRade improv = cabin capacity and armor improvements.
This turned out to be the best ship I ever built by far!!!!! and it wasn't supposed to be this good

I guess you could say that I have come of age as a shipbuilder. I am now R20 when I use my equipment, and have built many top ships like COG, Ambush Victory, IATS, ISF, CSC, .... many have sold at more than 40B. Most are being used currently by some of the games top mariners. But my fav ship is still that Modified Bermuda SLoop. I used it in ESF yesterday and even though my fleet only had 3 we beat almost every opposing fleet. mostly because I was admiral and there isn't a ship that can catch and maneuver with my sloop.
I have gone from broke to having 60B to broke again in a matter of 3 days.... lol. well to be honest broke only in that I had no cash. Had ships worth well over 200B total. I have never advertised as a shipbuilder but have people waiting 3 weeks and more for me to mod a ship. my SB peers are now cadillac shrimpin, Rhiyuki, Hussein Gazi and the like. And yes, I am arrogant enough to sometimes tell them ways to improve..... lol
But I still miss the times as I was learning, and debating the merits of this idea or that for certain ships with Rass and or Juan. and it seemed to be a windfall when I managed to save enough to buy or trade for a FFCV or ADZ. Then I would do the entire build, look at it..... and realize that I would have to reset and start over, because it sucked. I still do that sometimes, but not often now. And I have people waiting for every ship I build. so they have to be right. And OMG they all want G6 ships. making a G6 can drive even the best man insane. Yes I have built several. and I have had fails go retro when doing the G6 fusion........ and poof it is back to G4 ... that 1 fail cost me 8B and 30 hours of work. Poof gone just like that.
Its nice to be liked, but It was also nice to be a part of a great group. I thank you all for being that group.

over the last couple days I had the pleasure of collaborating once again with my friend Rassalon. This is actually a 5-skill ship. only 4 are visible because a shortage of OSP made it impossible to add the original skill at this time. the original skill will be "sea mine removal" I think the results speak for themselves. click the images to enlarge....

New Kids on the Block is my favourite pop-band of 90s. NKOTB had so many hit songs! The ones I remember are 'Tonight', 'Baby, I Believe In You' and, of course their hit 'Step By Step'. These are real masterpieces, not garbage like today! And it is sooo good they have a tour in 2019! So I'm going to visit their concert in 2019. The full list is here: New Kids on the Block tour Philadelphia. Check it out and maybe we can even visit one of the performances together!
