Well last night my cousin had me head over to the local gaming store to experience "miniature gaming." Essentially rooms of dudes, gals and some kids setting up these elaborate maps of 3d terrain and flat terrain with just TONS of miniatures. I saw Warhammer, Star Wars whole lot of stuff. The game I watched and got in on was called Warmachines by Privateer Press (see above). It's very similar to like D&D in that each miniature is a character with stats and attacks. Using line of sight lasers and measuring tapes these guys figure out movement and attacks. Pretty elaborate.

Awesome, there is nothing more fun for us complete nerds than miniature games. My first exposure to war-games was the original dungeons and dragons..... before home computers existed. The only way I could get others to play with me, was if I was dungeon master . I was determined to be an adventurer though so I eventually designed my own random dungeon generator, so I could play solo. I then taught everyone I could get interested. My older sister got so hooked that when she found herself unemployed .... she decided why the hell not. She opened a "bookstore" featuring new and used fantasy books, games, cards, the whole bit. her main selling point was the game-rooms in the back. Just like the ones you were playing. She developed such a tight group that eventually two couples from the regular group who met by playing games ended up getting married. Alas, the problem with a tight group is there is seldom new members.... and therefor seldom enough cash flow. She went bankrupt after 4 years. but still never for a minute regretted doing it. the old gang still gets together twice a year for games...

wow just seeing this.. better late than never? Never played D&D - my daughter in law on the other hand has a weekly D&D gathering and has for more than 10 years - don't mess with her D&D night - I'm clueless.
